Pickup overturns after head-on collision; 2 drivers killed

Two drivers were killed after a pickup overturned in a three-vehicle wreck in Lawrence County Monday night, authorities said.

An Arkansas State Police report says a northbound Chevy pickup crossed the center line of the highway around 9:39 p.m. and struck a southbound Toyota Corolla head-on.

The Chevy flipped in the highway and was struck on the driver's side by another northbound pickup, according to the report.

The crash killed the driver of the flipped truck, identified in the report as 59-year-old John Kevin Elledge of Pocahontas, and the driver of the Corolla, Britny Jean Vickers, 20, of Homosassa, Fla.

Two men in the second pickup that struck the overturned vehicle were reportedly injured.

The deaths were the 152nd and 153rd on Arkansas roads in 2016, according to preliminary state police reports.

Police described road conditions at the time of the crash as clear and dry.
