Can you believe it? There's good news out of the Legislature and the governor's office. Legislative leaders have agreed with the Guv to restore a $1 million cut in the budget for the state's libraries and another $1 million cut for old folks' centers. It's hard to think of a better way to demonstrate concern for both young and old, each of which should benefit by this investment in our libraries and other educational institutions.
"It's absolutely a shame if we don't support our public libraries," to quote Sen. David Burnett (D-Osceola). But now the shadow of shame has been avoided, and it's time for Arkansas to get on with the business of legislating--and educating.
