Volunteers sought for cleanup day

Volunteer groups will meet May 14 to pick up litter along streets, in parks and on playgrounds in their neighborhoods during the annual Great North Little Rock Cleanup.

The registration deadline is Saturday. Information is available at the Keep North Little Rock Beautiful website, KNLRB.org. There is no fee to participate. People can register by emailing Green@KNLRB.org or by phoning (501) 350-8775.

Volunteers can register as individuals, families, church groups, scouts or civic organizations. Team leaders will select a meeting location near the area each team will clean, such as a neighborhood street, a park or a playground. The cleanup is to be 8 a.m.-11 a.m.

A pizza party for the volunteers, complete with prizes, will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the John Irving Pavilion in Burns Park.

The Keep North Little Rock Beautiful website suggests participants take gloves, rakes, trash bags, trash grabbers and safety vests. Some items can be provided by contacting Keep North Little Rock Beautiful.

Reunion nearing for '46 graduates

North Little Rock High School graduates from the Class of 1946 are being sought to participate in a 70th year class reunion Sept. 24 in North Little Rock.

In 1946, the students who attended North Little Rock High School weren't only from North Little Rock but also traveled from Sylvan Hills, Scott and England. There were 244 members in that year's graduating class, according to information provided by reunion organizers.

The reunion will be at a restaurant in North Little Rock to be announced later. The reunion will start at 4 p.m., followed by a dinner.

St. Joseph Center plans fundraisers

Spring fundraisers for the St. Joseph Center of Arkansas are set for Thursday and Saturday at the St. Joseph Center, 6800 Camp Robinson Road in North Little Rock.

The center's Lettuce Dine dinner and art show is Thursday with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Chefs from The Root Cafe are to provide dinner.

The Spring Festival Lettuce Grow fundraiser will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday with activities, music and entertainment.

The fundraisers will include the recognition of the St. Joseph Farm Stand for the 2016 season, the dedication of the new Hunger Relief Garden and the unveiling of a sculpture by Kevin Kresse as a gift to the St. Joseph Center, according to an event announcement.

The St. Joseph Center, a former orphanage, opened in 1910 with a 56,000 square-foot building on 63 acres. The property has been farmed for more than a century, sustaining the center and the local community, according to center information.

Thea Foundation features collages

The nonprofit Thea Foundation will feature the works of artist Michael Church, starting with a reception 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday.

Church's works of collage have been featured in several national publications. His exhibition at the Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., is titled Succinct.

Admission to the reception is $10 and includes heavy hors d'oeuveres, an open beer and wine bar, a performance by A Rowdy Faith and a chance to win an original work by Church.

Mini Maker Faire set for Saturday

North Little Rock's second annual Mini Maker Faire in the city's downtown Argenta neighborhood is set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, hosted by the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub.

The Mini Maker Faire, for people of all ages, combines science, art and technology with "do-it-yourself creativity and tinkering" and is "part science, part county fair" according to event information.

Admission tickets will be $10 at the event or can be purchased through the website makerfairenlr.com.
