ASU loses another quarterback

Arkansas State's group of quarterbacks has lost another member.

Cameron Birse, who signed with then-coach Bryan Harsin in 2013, has decided to transfer, Coach Blake Anderson said through the school's sports information department Wednesday. Anderson provided no further comment.

Birse, who would have been a redshirt junior this fall, was ASU's No. 3 quarterback last season but was set to compete with Justice Hansen for the starting job this fall. He is the second quarterback ASU has lost in less than a month, after James Tabary was dismissed from the team for what Anderson called "inappropriate and disappointing choices" last month.

Birse was 4 of 4 passing for 37 yards last season. He played in one game in 2014, but did not throw a pass.

ASU is down to three scholarship quarterbacks now in Hansen, DJ Pearson, who will be a redshirt freshman, and Logan Bonner, who will be a true freshman. Carson Coates, a walk-on from Jonesboro, also took snaps this spring.
