Heritage kickoff

The Arkansas Arts Council and the Department of Arkansas Heritage are marking the opening of Arkansas Heritage Month (May) with a kickoff party, 10 a.m. today in the atrium lobby of the Arkansas Arts Center in MacArthur Park, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock. The 2016 theme is "Arkansas Arts: Celebrating Our Creative Culture." The kickoff party will include the unveiling of the Heritage Month poster, featuring artwork by My'Angel Davis of North Little Rock. (As a third-grader at Seventh Street Elementary School last year, My'Angel created the painting My T Dogs, which went on to win the 2015 Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition.) Admission is free. 'Lettuce Grow'

St. Joseph Center of Arkansas will hold its three-day "Lettuce Grow Spring Festival," today-Saturday at the center, 6800 Camp Robinson Road, North Little Rock.

A kickoff fundraiser, "Lettuce Dine," 6-9 p.m. today on the St. Joseph Center grounds will feature a dinner prepared by the Root Cafe, drinks, music and an art show featuring 15 area artists. Tickets are $125. Visit tinyurl.com/lettucedine.

The public portion of the festival, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, will feature a "Lettuce Stroll" (a historical tour of the grounds), an art show, food trucks, a craft beer garden, a magic show (at 12:30 p.m.), and hayrides. Sci-fi spoofery

Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will lampoon and/or lambaste the science fiction cult classic film Time Chasers, 7 p.m. today at the the Colonel Glenn 18 in Little Rock, the Tinseltown in Benton and the Conway Cypress Point at Towne Center in Conway. A "rebroadcast" at 7:30 p.m. May 17 will also screen at the Breckenridge Village 12 in Little Rock. Tickets are available online at FathomEvents.com.

Cinco FUNraiser

Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Road, Hot Springs, will hold a Cinco de Mayo FUNraiser, 6-8 p.m. today in the Garvan Pavilion, with traditional Mexican foods and margaritas, and musical entertainment. Succinct art

"Succinct," an exhibition of works by mixed media artist Michael Church, goes on display with a reception, 6:30-9 p.m. Friday at the Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., North Little Rock. Admission, $10 at the door, includes heavy hors d'oeuvres by Ben E. Keith, an open beer-and-wine bar, music by A Rowdy Faith and the chance to win an original work by Church. It's the 12th installment in the foundation's Art Department series. The exhibition will be on display through May. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Historic 'sandwich'

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's May "Sandwiching in History" will tour the three-story, Romanesque Revival-style Fulk Building, 300 Main St., Little Rock, at noon Friday. The building, which has housed clothing and shoe stores, banks and restaurants, was most recently the home of Bennett's Military Supplies before a rehabilitation involving federal and state tax credits, and is now the offices of advertising and public relations firm CJRW. 'Tea Time' at the Top

It's "Tea Time" for the Top of the Rock Chorus, which will hold its fourth annual fundraiser 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Albert Pike Masonic Center, 712 Scott St., Little Rock. The women's barbershop-style chorus and Acapella Rising, the men's chorus formerly called the Diamond State Chorus, will perform. There will also be a vintage fashion show and a three-course tea. Fashions for mom

Fashion designers and models from around the country and the world will show their collections at Cupidon's "Viva Mothers!" fashion show and vendors showcase, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Statehouse Convention Center, Markham and Main streets, Little Rock. The fashion show starts at 6; dress code is cocktail attire. Participating models are competing for a travel award to join the Fashion Collections Showcase, Aug. 4-6 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Outcry Summer 2016, "which champions, represents and promotes the local church: the Bride of Christ" will take place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19.
