Ole Miss pitcher handcuffs UAPB

Mississippi junior right-hander Chad Smith (4-4) had a career-high 11 strikeouts as the No. 10 Rebels defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 12-1 before an announced crowd of 8,174 on Wednesday night at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss.

Smith allowed 1 unearned run and 4 hits with 4 walks over 7 innings. Andrew Lowe worked the final two innings, striking out three.

Humberto Medina (4-5) was the UAPB starter and took the loss. He allowed three earned runs while not giving up a hit in 1 1/3 innings. The Golden Lions (17-22) used six pitchers.

The Rebels (34-12) scored three runs in the second inning, a single run in the third and two in fourth before UAPB got scored. The Golden Lions’ Dontrell Brown reached on an error in the seventh and later scored on an RBI groundout by center-fielder Jaqueese Moore.

UAPB totaled four hits: two singles by second baseman Aderly Perez and one each by Brown and left-fielder Jordan Knox.
