Arkansas State Police troopers examine a pickup they pursued Wednesday from Faulkner County to Maumelle.

A high-speed police chase through parts of central Arkansas ended Wednesday when the fleeing driver crashed his vehicle, police said.

Authorities reportedly tried to pull over the pickup on Interstate 40 near Interstate 430, but the driver refused to stop. Police at the scene said the pursuit reached speeds of 100 mph before the pickup crashed on Tanning Road, which runs between Arkansas 365 and I-40 in the Maumelle area.

Police said the driver — identified as 41-year-old William Chad Arnold of Plumerville — ran from the pickup but was caught while trying to flee across the interstate.

"Arnold was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released," state police spokesman Bill Sadler said in an email. "He was incarcerated at Sherwood on charges of speeding, fleeing, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated."
