Jury sentences North Little Rock man to 40 years in 2014 slaying

UPDATE:

A jury sentenced a North Little Rock man to 40 years in prison for killing a 27-year-old man outside a housing complex on Christmas Eve 2014.

Tyrun Jones was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.

He was found guilty earlier Friday of second-degree murder and using a firearm to commit murder. The charges carry maximum sentences of 30 years and 15 years, respectively.

The jury was sent to deliberate at 2 p.m. and reached a sentencing decision 30 minutes later.

A jury found a 26-year-old North Little Rock man guilty of second-degree murder in the 2014 killing of a man who prosecutors said he viewed as a romantic rival.

The 12-person jury of five men and seven women also found Tyrun Jones guilty of using a firearm to commit murder.

The jury reached the verdict after less than an hour of deliberation Friday.

The trial before Judge David Laser in Pulaski County Circuit Court began Tuesday. The jury deliberated for nearly four hours until 10:30 p.m. Thursday before resuming Friday morning.

Jones was found guilty in the slaying of Alex William Booker on Christmas Eve 2014 at the Shorter College Gardens housing complex.
