Pulaski Tech to vote on merger with UA

LITTLE ROCK — A special meeting has been set for the Pulaski Technical College Board of Trustees to consider a proposed merger into the University of Arkansas System.

The meeting is planned for Wednesday. Pulaski Tech says its trustees will vote on the proposal to enter into a formal partnership with the UA System. If approved, the UA Board of Trustees will consider the proposal at its meeting later this month.

Pulaski Tech said earlier this spring that the UA brand could increase enrollment that has fallen from 11,946 in 2011 to 7,648 last fall.

Arkansas now has 22 community colleges. Twelve are independent institutions, five are already part of the UA System, four are affiliated with the Arkansas State University System, and one is an arm of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.
