Chamber gives small-business awards

The Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce recognized its Small Business Award winners at a luncheon at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bentonville on Wednesday.

Actress Geena Davis, co-founder of the Bentonville Film Festival, was the keynote speaker and talked about the need for more gender diversity in media.

The chamber presented awards in four categories:

• Emerging Small-Business Person of the Year -- Katie Boykin with Bentonville Brewing Co.

• Exporter Small-Business Person of the Year -- Jeff Engleman of Launch Marketing LLC.

• Small-Business Person of the Year -- Keith Brown of Brown's Collision Center.

• Woman-Owned Small-Business Person of the Year -- Rebecca Elkins of Elkins Design.

Shippers honor 2 ArcBest companies

Two ArcBest Corp. companies were recognized as carriers of the year in their respective categories.

The National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council named ABF Freight as the National LTL Carrier of the Year and Panther Premium Logistics as National Expedited Carrier of the Year. The awards were given during the council's annual conference in Orlando, Fla.

The award marks the sixth time ABF Freight has been recognized in the past seven years, and the second time Panther has received the award.

The awards recognize carriers that have demonstrated excellence in transportation. The program also helps shippers to identify the best in carrier performance and value.

State praises 2 businesses for safety

Wal-Mart Warehouse No. 8 at 2100 S.E. Fifth St. in Bentonville, a division of Wal-Mart Logistics, is the recipient of a Three Million Man Hour Safety Award from the Arkansas Department of Labor.

Four hundred employees accumulated 3 million work hours without a lost day from a work-related injury or illness between Sept. 8, 2011, and April 5, 2016.

J.V. Manufacturing Inc. at 701 Butterfield Coach Road in Springdale received a Two Million Man Hour Safety Award.

One hundred sixty-five employees accumulated 2 million work hours without a lost day from a work-related injury or illness between March 10, 2013, and Feb. 28, 2016.

Pigtails & Crewcuts salon opens in Rogers

Pigtails & Crewcuts salon is bringing kids cuts to Rogers. Husband and wife team Chuck and Laura Coleman opened the salon in February at 4200 W. Green Acres Road, Suite 300. The couple also owns Pigtails & Crewcuts in Fayetteville at 100 E. Joyce Blvd., Suite 105.

The salons specialize in children's haircuts, but stylists also provide haircuts for parents and older kids, welcoming people of all ages.

The salons also have a party room reserved for birthday parties, dress-up parties, tea parties and other themed celebrations.

Elevate Performance offers peer forums

Elevate Performance, which organizes forums, is expanding offerings to the Northwest Arkansas community with four forums in 2016.

The firm is accepting applications to CEO Forum I of Benton County on May 17 and Emerging Leader Forum VI on June 23. Interested parties can email Pear Pleetissamuth at pear@ceoforums.us for details.

Peer advisory groups include 12-14 members with no competitive conflicts. These growth leaders meet one morning per month to share wisdom among peers and to consider common issues, concerns and ideas in a confidential, respectful environment. Members gain exposure to subject matter experts and best practices.

The remaining two forums are set for November.

O'Reilly Auto Parts opens in Centerton

O'Reilly Auto Parts has opened a store in Centerton at 514 W. Centerton Blvd.

The store will be celebrating its grand opening from Wednesday to May 24. There will be a radio remote from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Victor Teodocio, store manager, will present a $200 check to the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter.
