TEXAS-ARLINGTON 21, UALR 8

Texas-Arlington (24-24, 10-13 Sun Belt) scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to break open Saturday's game against UALR (23-21, 14-9) at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock, then answered a Trojans rally with six runs in the ninth.

Ryan Scott hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to give the Trojans their only lead of the game. The Mavericks cut the lead in half in the top of the second on a Colton Turner RBI single.

They took the lead for good in the fourth. Darien McLemore led off with a single, then advanced to third on Quintin Rohrbaugh's double to left. Turner followed with a two-run double to give Texas-Arlington a 3-2 lead. Matt McLean hit a one-out RBI double, then R.J. Williams walked to load the bases and Brady Cox walked to give the Mavericks a 5-3 lead. That chased UALR starter Cory Malcolm, who was replaced by Dylan Slayton, who promptly gave up a two-run single to McLemore for a 7-2 lead. The Mavericks then got five consecutive RBI singles to take a 12-2 lead before McLean popped out to end the inning.

Turner hit an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the sixth to give Texas-Arlington a 13-2 lead, which held until the bottom of the seventh. Scott hit his second two-run home run of the game to cut the lead to 13-4. Turner's third double of the game in the top of the eighth increased the lead to 15-4 before UALR scored four runs, all coming with two outs, in the bottom of the eighth. Keegan Meyn, Matt McDowell, Riley Pittman and Ty Gunter all hit RBI singles to cut the lead to 15-8.

Texas-Arlington responded with six runs in the top of the ninth. McLemore and Rohrbaugh hit RBI singles and Turner's sacrifice fly gave the Mavericks a 17-8 lead. Josh Minjarez put an exclamation point on the game with a two-out grand slam.

Turner led the Mavericks offensively, going 5 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 8 RBI. Rohrbaugh was 5 for 6 and McLemore was 3 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI. Scott was 3 for 3 to lead the Trojans, while Gunter was 3 for 5 and Nik Gifford was 3 for 4.

NW (LA.) STATE 6,

ARKANSAS STATE 3

Matt Burgess was 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI for Arkansas State on Saturday, but Northwestern (La.) State scored four combined runs in the third and fourth innings to earn the chance to sweep the weekend series at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

Nick Heath singled up the middle for the Demons (27-18) to begin the third. He stole second and advanced to third on an error by ASU catcher Frankie Alvarez. He scored on Cort Brinson's sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. Northwestern State added three runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Bret Underwood and a two-run single from Heath.

The Demons took a 6-0 lead in the sixth when Kelsey Richard, who doubled down the left field line to begin the inning, scored on a wild pitch by ASU reliever Tanner Kirby. Underwood added a two-out RBI double that scored Matthew Alford.

Burgess responded for Arkansas State (20-25) in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run to right field on a 2-2 pitch. He added an RBI single in the eighth inning that scored Joe Schrimpf and cut the lead to 6-3.

Richard and Matt Valdez were both 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Demons, who overcame 3 errors and 8 stranded base runners, while Underwood and Daniel Garner were both 2 for 5. Tim Seldomridge was 2 for 5 for the Red Wolves, who had 7 hits and stranded 7 base runners. Chase Hymel (4-5) got the victory after allowing 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in his 5 innings. Devin Bear earned his first save of the season after allowing 1 hit with 1 strikeout in 2 innings. Coulton Lee (5-5) took the loss after allowing 5 earned runs on 11 hits with 2 strikeouts in 51/3 innings.

SOUTHLAND

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 21, INCARNATE WORD 10

Central Arkansas (20-23, 11-12 Southland) led Incarnate Word 8-6 after 61/2 innings Saturday at Bear Stadium in Fayetteville, then put the game away with nine runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth.

The Cardinals (12-34, 5-18) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Brance Kahle. The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the first when Chris Townsend singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Robert Lopez then scored on a fielding error by center fielder Cory Duran. Brandon Montalvo walked and scored on Matt Anderson's double down the left field line to give UCA a 2-1 lead.

Incarnate Word reclaimed the lead in the second on a Lopez double and a Ryan Gonzalez sacrifice fly, giving the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. Anderson had an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third to tie the game and Logan Preston's two-run single gave the Bears a 5-3 lead. Incarnate Word tied the game again at 5-5 in the fourth on a two-run double from Gonzalez.

Preston hit a two-run home run in the fifth to give UCA a 7-5 lead. The lead grew to 8-5 in the sixth when Ty Tice scored on Brooks Balisterri's single to center field. Incarnate Word got a run back in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from Trey Rodriguez, cutting the lead to 8-6.

That set the stage for the Bears' big inning in the seventh. Preston hit an RBI double to left-center field and scored on a wild pitch to give UCA a 10-6 lead. Justin McCarty and Tice followed with singles and both scored on Tyler Langley's triple to center. Langley would also score on a throwing error on the play by Gonzalez, increasing the lead to 13-6. Montalvo hit a three-run home run down the right field line and McCarty added an RBI single for a 17-6 lead.

UCA's four runs in the eighth inning came on RBI doubles from Cody Davenport and Preston, who scored when Michael Haun walked with the bases loaded, and an RBI single from Langley. Incarnate Word answered with four runs in the top of the ninth on two consecutive bases-loaded walks, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.

Preston was 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 6 RBI for the Bears, while Chris Townsend was 4 for 6 with 3 runs scored. Tice and Montalvo were both 2 for 3. Austin Hoffman was 4 for 5 to lead the Cardinals, while Kahle and Rodriguez were both 2 for 3. Connor McClain earned the victory for UCA after allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4 innings. Incarnate Word starter John Shull took the loss after allowing 7 earned runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks over 5 innings.

UAPB 15, GRAMBLING STATE 5

UAPB (19-22, 15-5 SWAC) scored seven runs in the fifth inning Saturday at Ellies Field in Grambling, La., to beat Grambling State (22-22, 15-7) and win the Western Division for the third consecutive season.

UAPB took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-run double from Aderly Perez, who scored on Julian Jones sacrifice fly. The lead grew to 4-0 in the fourth when Jerimiah Figueroa scored as Jaqueese Moore reached on an error by Grambling State shortstop Wesley Drain. Larry Barraza hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth for Grambling State, cutting the lead to 4-1.

Figueroa had a two-run double for the Golden Lions in the fifth and later scored on Robert Colon's double to increase the lead to 7-1. Jordan Knox added a two-run single and Dontrell Brown had a two-run double to give UAPB an 11-1 lead.

Daniel Barnett hit a two-run home run for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead to 11-3. UAPB scored a run in the sixth when Jones scored as Colon grounded into a double play, giving the Golden Lions a 12-3 lead. Grambling got the run back in the bottom of the sixth on a Johan Mojica RBI single, making it 12-4.

Brown hit a two-run home run for UAPB in the seventh for a 14-4 lead, but Grambling responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on an Angel Peguero RBI single. Colon scored on a Tommy Haas sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for UAPB's final run.

Colon finshed 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for UAPB, while Knox was 3 for 6 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Brown and Figueroa were both 2 for 4. Barnett was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored to lead Grambling State. Anthony Bowmaker (6-1) earned the victory despite giving up 4 earned runs. He allowed 6 hits and 5 walks, but had 3 strikeouts in 5 innings. Tanner Raiburn (3-6) took the loss after allowing 8 earned runs on 10 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks over 42/3 innings.
