CENTRAL ARKANSAS 9, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 0

Central Arkansas Coach Allen Gum earned his 400th career victory Tuesday as the Bears (22-23) shut out Arkansas-Pine Bluff (20-23) at Torii Hunter Complex in Pine Bluff. Gum is 174-150 in six seasons at UCA, who hired him from Southern Arkansas before the 2011 season. He is 400-218 in 11 seasons. Hunter Strong finished 3 for 4 with 4 RBI to lead the Bears. Strong hit a three-run triple in UCA’s four-run first inning and an RBI single in the fourth inning. Other than Strong, no other UCA player had more than one hit. Tyler Langley homered in the fourth inning off UAPB reliever Harry Estep for a 6-0 lead. UCA added a run in the sixth inning for a 7-0 lead on Brooks Balisterri’s sacrifice fly. Ty Tice (1-0) allowed 5 hits, struck out 6 and walked 1 in 6 innings to earn his first victory of the season for the Bears. Jacob Murray pitched the final three innings for the Bears, giving up two hits. Ashton Holdridge (0-4) took the loss for the Golden Lions, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. Joshua Williams led UAPB offensively, going 2 for 4.

ARKANSAS STATE 4, MEMPHIS 3

Matt Burgess finished 3 for 4 with a double and Arkansas State (22-25) beat Memphis (16-33) in a nonconference game at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro. Jeremy Brown went 2 for 3 and Joe Schrimpf had a double for ASU. Memphis pulled within 4-3 on Zach Schritenthal’s RBI single, but Adam Grantham got Jake Little to fly out to right field to end the game. Grantham (2-3) earned the victory in relief in Zachary Patterson, who went four innings. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings and struck out 7.
