Singer-songwriter-guitarist-fiddler Joe Crookston will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday for the Little Rock Folk Club at Hibernia Irish Tavern. Admission is $15, $8 for students with IDs, free for accompanied children 12 and under.

Crookston, who has been based in Ithaca, N.Y., since 2015, is a singer-songwriter who grew up in rural Ohio and attended Kent State University. While there he shifted his musical interest from classical guitar to folk music after he attended the Kent State Folk Festival. He lived in Seattle from 1996 to 2004, a time when he worked with troubled youth in a prison.

On his website Crookston recalls that one of his musical idols, Woody Guthrie, once said that "A song has to be more than good ... it has to be good for something," which inspired Crookston to explain that "When my songs are played at births, funerals, Quaker retreats, grade school history classes, weddings and are being placed in museum exhibits and films, I feel like I'm making Woody proud."
