Pangburn School Band Fundraiser

PANGBURN — The Pangburn School Band will have a hot-dog meal from 5-6:30 p.m. in the school’s storm shelter. The cost is $5. The meal will be followed with a free performance by the Pangburn School Band and Choir at 7 p.m. in the Pangburn School Performing Arts Center. The public is invited. During the concert, a drawing will be held for a gas grill and a rifle scope to be given away. This event is a fundraiser for the band and choir’s trip in June to New Orleans. Arkansas Constitutional Tea Party Meeting

Retired Teachers Spring Luncheon

Highway Dedication and Ribbon Cutting

SEARCY — The Arkansas Highway 13 extension dedication and ribbon cutting will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Bayou Des Arc Bridge on the southern end of the new route. Access the bridge from the north off Arkansas 36 onto Honeyhill Road. Access from the south off Arkansas 267. Attire will be causal. In the event of rain, bring an umbrella. If the weather is dangerous, the event will be moved to the Searcy Regional Chamber of Commerce, 2323 S. Main St.

Quilt and Needlework Exhibit

CABOT — The Cabot Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild will present a quilt and needlework exhibit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Cabot Public Library, at Arkansas 89 and 10th Street. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Pancake Breakfast Cancellation

HORSESHOE BEND — The Horseshoe Bend Knights of Columbus have canceled their Mega Pancake Breakfast Benefit scheduled for Saturday because of a conflict with Horseshoe Bend Dogwood Days, and the Kiwanis also have a pancake breakfast on that day.

Celebrating Calico Rock Art

CALICO ROCK — The Calico Rock Museum will host Celebrating Calico Rock Art as part of Arkansas Heritage Month. The event will include a special temporary exhibit of the art of the late Emma Drown Morgan, Harvey Bufford and Junior Cobb. There will be an awards presentation and reception at 10 a.m. in the Murphy Gallery for high school students whose works celebrate the community’s history. Corvette Show and Shine

SEARCY — Corvettes of Arkansas, Ltd., Inc. will present the Corvette Show and Shine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Berryhill Park. There is no registration fee; however, donations will be accepted for the support of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches. People’s Choice awards will be given, and a free lunch will be served to Corvette drivers and passengers. The public is invited to attend.

Clothing Drive Challenge

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club will sponsor a Clothing Drive Challenge to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Open Arms Shelter from 8 a.m. to noon at the Cabot Farmers Market, in the parking lot of ReNew Community Church, 1122 S. Second St. Donations of new or gently worn clothing, coats, belts and shoes (infant through adult sizes), as well as backpacks and suitcases, will be accepted. USDA Commodities Distribution

LONOKE — The Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute U.S. Department of Agriculture commodities, beginning at 9 a.m. Items may include orange juice, applesauce, green beans, dehydrated potatoes, refried beans, peanut butter and corn flakes. Food will be distributed at the following locations in the Three Rivers Edition coverage area: Austin City Hall; Cabot Church of Christ, 500 N. Second St.; the Ward Chamber of Commerce; and the Woodlawn Community Center. All customers must have identification, and income guidelines must be met. Summer Reading Camp

BATESVILLE — Registration is open for Get in the Game … Read! — the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project’s 2016 Summer Reading Camp for children entering first through sixth grades. The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon June 6-9 at the Fellowship Bible Church (formerly Landers Theater), 156 S. Third St. The camp will offer engaging reading and writing activities with a focus on stories related to competition, physical activity and sports heroes. Lifeguard Classes

JACKSONVILLE — Lifeguard classes will be offered at the Jacksonville Community Center. Participants must pass a pre-test and be at least 15 years old. Cabot Lions Club Meetings

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the KingPin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Club members provide children with eyeglasses, offer food for seniors and are among the first to respond when disaster strikes. All are invited to attend the meetings.

World War I Exhibit

CABOT — A World War I exhibit is on display at the Museum of American History, 114 S. First St., through May 21. Commemorating the centennial of the war, the traveling exhibit consists of 12 photo panels developed by the Arkansas History Commission that depict the role of Arkansas in World War I. Almost 60 original photos, uniforms and other artifacts from the museum’s collection are included. The museum is open from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. each Friday and Saturday. The Foreigner Production and Opening Reception

SEARCY — Center on the Square, 219 W. Summer Bridge Program

NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport will offer a Summer Bridge program May 31 through June 29 for high school students who want to earn four hours of college credit. Fire Department Fish Fry

AUSTIN — The Tri-Community Fire Department will have a fish fry from 4-6:30 p.m. May 21 at the fire station on Arkansas 321 at Bear Road. HORSESHOE BEND — The Horseshoe Bend Volunteer Fire and Rescue will have its fourth annual FNBC/Horseshoe Bend Fire Truck Open on May 28 at the Turkey Mountain Golf Course. The tournament will be a three-person scramble with an entry fee of $120 per team. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m., preceded by coffee and doughnuts at 8 a.m.. Golf carts are not included in the entry fee but will be available with advance reservations. BATESVILLE — Lyon College will host its annual Outdoor and ACT Prep Camp for rising high school juniors and seniors June 5-8.
