DINNER ON THE GROUNDS

Southern delicacies abound at fundraiser for Our House

Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s created a comfortable backdrop for this year's Dinner on the Grounds, a Southern-style supper and fundraiser for Our House held at the Terry House.

There was a tent and music for dancing, a dinner buffet that included smoked chicken quarters, fried catfish, cornbread salad and brown sugar and bacon green beans and specialty cocktails by South on Main. A table under a large magnolia tree held a spread of moon pies, cupcakes and other sweets provided by Sweet Lavender Bakery.

More than 600 guests dined at cocktail or long tables on the lawn or at round dinner tables inside the Terry House. Also inside was a dining room table covered with various desserts.

The dinner raised $246,625 for the homeless shelter.

"It's not a coincidence that we choose to hold our spring fundraiser right before school lets out for the summer," says Mariah Nehus with Our House. "The money raised at this event will help ensure that the kids in our summer program continue to receive the meals that they otherwise would have received at school."
