Food: Old cake, fresh take

The name may be unfortunate and unappetizing, but it’s hard to beat the ease and taste of the “dump” cake, writes food editor Kelly Brant.

For most cakes all you need is a baking dish, a can opener, a measuring cup and a whisk.

The classic version — canned cherry pie filling, canned pineapple, nuts, yellow cake mix and butter — is delicious, but there’s a whole world of flavors out there.
