Arkansas pastor charged with harassment in scuffles at abortion clinic

A church pastor accused of accosting a woman at a Little Rock abortion clinic was charged last week with harassment.

Scott Skarda, 54, a pastor at Family Christian Fellowship Church in Hazen, was cited in the case Friday, court filings show.

Karen Musick, a volunteer escort for patients at Little Rock Family Planning Services, told police that Skarda grabbed her cellphone and refused to give it back while she was recording protesters at the clinic Dec. 4, according to a court affidavit.

The court filing states that prosecutors later sent Skarda a warning letter regarding the incident and advised Skarda to avoid contact with Musick.

But on Feb. 20, according to the affidavit, Musick was escorting a patient from the clinic and Skarda "put his hands on my vehicle in an attempt to reach the patient and prevent us from leaving." Musick also accused Skarda of grabbing an umbrella from her hands that day.

Skarda called the allegations bogus on Tuesday and said the escorts had harassed him and other anti-abortion protesters. Skarda's first court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Harassment is a Class A misdemeanor.
