A former anchor at KATV-TV whose history with the Little Rock ABC affiliate dates back to 1993 will return to the station and his home state this summer.

KATV News Director Nick Genty confirmed the hiring of Chris May, first reported by Arkansas Business, adding that the specifics of his new role, set to begin Aug. 1, have not been set.

“His experience is in anchoring, and that is probably where we would like him most,” Genty said, adding that the station will likely have a more finalized plan for his role at KATV within two weeks.

The return of May, who co-anchored KATV’s weeknight newscasts from 1995 until his departure in 1998, comes as the station is looking to fill a void left open by former weeknight anchor Scott Inman.

May started out at KATV as a general assignment reporter in December 1993, according to a cached biography on the station's website dating back to July 1998.

He most recently worked as a news anchor at Philadelphia CBS affiliate KYW-TV. May's Facebook page lists him as currently being on sabbatical.

“I’ve anchored my last broadcast at CBS3. Hope to see you all again,” May wrote in his farewell to KYW-TV viewers June 30, 2015, on Twitter.

Before landing the job in Philadelphia, May also held jobs at Boston CBS affiliate WBZ-TV and WHDH-TV in Boston.

Inman, a 17-year veteran at the station, concluded his run March 1 on KATV’s 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weeknight newscasts to begin a job at GenWealth Financial Advisors, Arkansas Online previously reported.
