Fingerstyle guitarist Knowles featured at Joint in Argenta

Acoustic guitarist John Knowles will perform at 7:30 p.m. today as the featured artist in May at the Argenta Arts Acoustic Music Series at The Joint. Admission is $20.

Knowles, who is based in Nashville, Tenn., has worked with fingerstyle and classical guitarists Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Lenny Breau and the Romero Family. In 1996, Atkins awarded him the first Honorary CGP (Certified Guitar Player) degree and in 2004, he was inducted into the National Thumb Picker's Hall of Fame for the second time. He received a doctorate in physics from Texas Christian University in 1968.

Atkins won a Grammy Award (Best Country Instrumental Performance) in 1976 for his recording of Knowles' arrangement of "The Entertainer" (the theme from the 1973 film The Sting.)

Vogelzang, a singer-songwriter from Lexington, Mass., is now based in Madison, Wis. She performs on banjo, ukulele, baritone ukulele, guitar and kalimba. She has recorded 10 CDs and EPs since her debut with a live album, Basics, in 2004.

Joey Kneiser and Kelly Smith will perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the White Water Tavern in Little Rock. Admission is $7.

Kneiser, the singer-songwriter of Glossary, released his first solo album, The All-Night Bedroom Revival, in 2009, in between his band responsibilities. He has since released an EP, Moonlight for the Graveyard Heart, and a CD, The Wildness, during the band's lengthy hiatus due to a member's health.

Smith, also a member of Glossary, is Kneiser's ex-wife. He called on Smith to sing with him, saying in his online press materials, "We've been singing our whole adult lives together. I don't like to hear my voice without hers next to it."

Dead Bird, Bad Match and Sumoken will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $7.
