Style: Let me count the ways

In his cover essay in Friday’s Style section, Piers Marchant considers the many-splendored thing that is love in the movies. As he sees it, there are roughly 11 stages represented in film (well, he admits there are probably several thousand; but our news hole is finite) ranging from rapt devotion to abject disgust. He defined them, and provides examples of them at work, listed from most cynical to most virtuous.

But we’re also paying attention to what’s opening this week — including The Nice Guys, which Piers also handles, and the highly touted The Meddler (which Karen Martin examines). Meanwhile Dan Lybarger sat through The Angry Birds Movie and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Pick up Friday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for this and more.
