Arkansas lawmakers advance sexual-indecency law's fix

House and Senate Judiciary committees each approved a bill to fix the criminal statute for sexual indecency with a child.

The Arkansas Supreme Court recently ruled the current law could not be used to charge a man who was accused of ordering a teenage girl to undress in front of him.

The court ruled that because of the way the law was crafted, it couldn't apply to a parent or legal guardian witnessing such acts.

Senate Bill 4 and House Bill 1011 would add a parent or guardian as a potential offender. The bills now move on to their respective chambers.
