BALTIMORE -- Coming off a fourth-place finish in the prestigious Kentucky Oaks, Go Maggie Go found her way back into the winning circle in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes.

It was a feel-good afternoon for trainer Dale Romans, who suffered broken ribs in a car accident after the Kentucky Derby.

Romans not only trained Go Maggie Go, but also second-place finisher Ma Can Do It.

"I feel no pain now," Romans said. "Everything is good."

Go Maggie Go stayed near the front for much of the 11/8-mile race, then drew off to win by 2½ lengths -- her third first-place finish in four career races.

The exception was the Oaks, where Go Maggie Go got off to a rocky start and rallied before coming up short.

"That's what showed me the quality filly she is," Romans said. "She got all the dirt and still came running."

The Black-Eyed Susan is a Grade II race for 3-year-old fillies.

"When she left clean there today," Romans said, "I didn't think they were going to beat her."

Go Maggie Go paid $5.60, $3.60 and $3.

Ma Can Do It, a 50-1 long shot, stormed from fourth place in the stretch to edge Kinsley Kisses by a head.

"For a maiden to come back like that against stakes winners, that's really good," Ma Can Do It jockey Brian Hernandez said.

Ma Can Do It returned $31.40 and $15, and Kinsley Kisses paid $4.60 to show.

Doug O'Neill, trainer for Land Over Sea, was hoping a victory would be the start of a highly successful weekend at Pimlico Race Course.

O'Neill is the trainer for Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist, who will be seeking to win the Preakness on Saturday. Nyquist will be ridden by Mario Gutierrez, who was aboard Land Over Sea.

Land Over Sea finished sixth. She has only one win in her last eight races.

"Just a rough trip," O'Neill said. "She didn't break real good. We'll live to fight another day. We're just fired up about today (Saturday)."

Earlier, Noble Bird, who started his season with disappointing effort at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, galloped to victory over a small field in the Grade 3 Pimlico Special. Idolo Porteno, third-place finisher in the March 19 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn, was second.
