Michah Hamon of Blytheville entered the plea to second-degree murder in Mississippi County Circuit Court on Monday for the killing of Lawless Kennedy, 49. Circuit Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr. of Osceola issued the sentence.

Authorities charged Hamon with first-degree murder after police found Kennedy on April 3, 2015, with a gunshot wound in his head in the 700 block of South Lake Street. Kennedy was taken to Great River Medical Center in Blytheville where he was pronounced dead, said Capt. Scott Adams, commander of the Blytheville Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.

Witnesses told police they saw Hamon running from Kennedy's home while carrying a weapon after they'd heard several shots. Police arrested Hamon a day after the shooting while conducting surveillance at his home.
