Arkansas Department of Higher Education director hired at Henderson State

Henderson State University has hired the director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education as its vice president for finance and administration.

The Arkadelphia university said in a statement that Brett Powell will begin his new job Aug. 1. He succeeds Bobby Jones, who is retiring.

Powell is a former vice president for administrative services at Ouachita Baptist University. He was picked to lead the Department of Higher Education in January 2015.

“I have been part of the Arkadelphia community since 2006, and I have come to truly appreciate the mission of Henderson State through my interactions with the leadership,” Powell said in a statement. “Though the work at ADHE has been quite productive and rewarding, there’s a strong draw to being back on a campus and being closer to the purpose of working in higher education.”
