Two people have been arrested, each on multiple charges including first-degree murder, after a shooting Tuesday morning in West Memphis that left one man dead, according to police.

Police responded about 10:11 a.m. to a report of a man shot at 714 Ingram Blvd., where they found Dedrick Meadows, 40, with an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen.

After the initial call, detectives in the area noticed a white Chevrolet Tahoe leaving the area “at a high rate of speed,” according to authorities.

The Chevrolet's occupants — Justin East, 25, and Nicola Moore, 35 — led the detectives on a short chase before being stopped and detained, police said.

After obtaining a description of the shooter, police said they were able to match that information to East’s physical characteristics.

Authorities said East confessed in a police interview to shooting Meadows as part of an ongoing disagreement.

East, who fled the scene with the gun, told detectives that he threw he weapon out of his vehicle during the police pursuit. The gun was later located, police said.

Meadows was treated at the scene before being transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. He died en route to the hospital, police said in a news release.

East and Moore each face felony charges of first-degree murder, fleeing and tampering with physical evidence.

Arraignment for both charged is set for Wednesday in West Memphis District Court.
