2 Arkansas women die days after one-car crash

Two Pine Bluff women died from injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash on May 16 in Hot Springs, the Arkansas State Police reported Monday.

Kersha L. Arrington, 32, and Ashley N. Whittington, 30, were passengers in a 2009 Mitsubishi that was traveling westbound shortly after noon in the 300 block of Malvern Avenue, also called U.S. 270, when it struck a utility pole, went down an embankment and overturned.

The driver, Dakota B. Avants, 22, of Pine Bluff, also was hurt in the crash, police said.

Whittington died Wednesday and Arrington died Thursday, according to a preliminary fatal crash summary the state police posted online Monday.

The weather was clear and the road dry at the time of the crash, the report said.
