Authorities search for teen swept away by floodwaters in Arkansas

A search is underway for a missing teen who was swept away by floodwaters in Jonesboro on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Blake Anderson with the Jonesboro Police Department said authorities received a call about 4:41 p.m. to Wesley Court on the city’s west side in response to a 13-year-old boy who got caught in rising water while playing in the area.

It was not immediately clear how high water had risen in the area due to heavy rainfall Tuesday.

A flash flood warning remains in effect for Craighead County until 7:30 p.m. after up to 5 inches of rain has fallen in that area of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
