E. coli concerns force closure of Arkansas lake's swim beach

A swim beach in north Arkansas will remain closed indefinitely because of E. coli concerns, the U.S. Corps of Engineers’ Mountain Home office said Tuesday.

Higher than acceptable bacteria levels found recently during Arkansas Department of Health testing at the Arkansas 125 beach on Bull Shoals Lake resulted in the closure, according to a news release.

Health officials said the high levels of E. coli could be from recent heavy rains causing runoff in the area.

Once bacteria levels are in an acceptable range, the beach will reopen, the Corps said.

More information about the beach’s status can be found by calling (870) 425-2700 or by visiting the website of the Corps’ Mountain Home office.
