GOLF

UA women fail to advance

The Arkansas women’s golf team shot 4-over par Monday and fell seven shots shy of making the eight-team match play portion of the NCAA Championships at the Eugene (Ore.) Country Club.

The Razorbacks finished tied for 12th with fellow SEC member Alabama at 21 over after the fourth round in a tournament dominated by Pacific-12 teams.

UCLA earned the No. 1 seed for match play with an 8 under, followed by defending national champion Stanford, which moved up three positions Monday and finished at 5 under. Other Pac-12 teams reaching the match play round were No. 3 seed Southern California (2 under), No. 4 seed Washington (even par) and No. 8 seed Oregon (14 over).

]The other qualifiers were No. 5 seed Virginia (3 over) and No. 6 seed Duke (6 over) from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the SEC’s lone entrant, No. 7 seed South Carolina (10 over).

The Razorbacks were led by sophomore Alana Uriell, who shot 1-under 71 on Monday and finished the tournament at 1 over and tied for 20th. Freshman Cara Gorlei closed with an even-par round of 72 and wound up tied for 36th at 4 over. Freshman Maria Fassi was 7 over for the championship and tied for 53rd. Senior Regina Plasencia was tied for 66th place at 12 over and junior Summar Roachell was tied for 76th at 18 over.

Duke’s Virginia Elena Carta was a runaway winner for medalist honors with a 16-under 272, eight strokes better than Arizona’s Haley moore and Miami’s Dewi Weber.

BASKETBALL

Arkansas to play Oklahoma State

Arkansas’ men’s team will play Oklahoma State next season in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, CBS Sports reported Monday.

The report didn’t include a date or location for the game.

Arkansas is 1-1 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge matchups the past two seasons, losing at Iowa State and beating Texas Tech in Walton Arena.

Arkansas and Oklahoma State have played 50 times, with the Cowboys leading the series 36-14. The teams last met during the 2003-2004 season when Oklahoma State won 73-58 at Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

Arkansas hasn’t released its schedule for next season, but Oklahoma State is the third opponent from a major conference the Razorbacks will face next season. According to previous CBS reports, the Razorbacks are also slated to play Texas in Houston and at Minnesota.

FOOTBALL

ASU-Utah State to be on national TV

Arkansas State has made a late change to its 2016 football schedule, and now it will have another game on national television.

ASU announced Monday its game against Utah State at Logan, Utah, has been moved to Friday, Sept. 16. Previously, the game was scheduled to be played Sept. 17. The move was made to satisfy a national CBS Sports Network broadcast. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. Central.

The Red Wolves, who finished 9-4 last season and won the Sun Belt Conference title, now have four games scheduled to be shown on national TV next season. They will play Georgia Southern on Oct. 5 on ESPN2, while games at Georgia State on Nov. 3 and at Troy on Nov. 17 will be on ESPNU. ASU’s Sept. 10 game at Auburn could also be picked up for a national broadcast.

ASU and Utah State last played in 2014, with the Red Wolves taking a 21-14 overtime victory in Jonesboro. The teams have split six all-time meetings.

Utah State was 6-7 overall last season after a loss to Akron in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Burlsworth camp scheduled

The Brandon Burlsworth Football Camps will be scheduled June 3 at F.S. Garrison Stadium in Harrison and June 4 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock for students entering third through ninth grade.

The cost is $35 for pre-registered campers and $45 on the day of camp registration. The deadline for pre-registration is Friday. The camp is non-contact and no pads or helmets will be worn. Each camp will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end with an autograph session from former University of Arkansas players at 12:30 p.m.

Former Razorbacks participating include Chad Abernathy, Seth Armbrust, Mitchell Bailey, David Bazzel, D’Andre Berry, Freddy Burton, Richie Butler, Ron Calcagni, Grant Cook, Joe Dean Davenport, Grant Garrett, Wade Grayson, Price Holmes, Bo Lacy, Jonathan Luigs, Lucas Miller, Clarke Moore, Dahron Moss, Nathan Norman, Mitch Petrus, Kenny Sandlin, Michael Smith, Michael Snowden and Austin Tate.

Proceeds from the camp will go the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation’s program for underprivileged children.

Final season statistics needed

High school baseball, soccer and softball coaches are encouraged to report their end of the season statistics to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette by Wednesday for consideration to the All Arkansas Preps teams.

Offensive statistics requested for baseball and softball include at-bats, hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, runs batted in and stolen bases. Pitching statistics requested include won-loss record, innings pitched, runs allowed, earned runs allowed, strikeouts and walks.
