Motorcyclist dies in three-vehicle Arkansas crash

A three-vehicle crash earlier this month left a North Carolina man dead after his motorcycle veered off a El Dorado road in rainy weather, according to Arkansas State Police.

Emmanuel D. Pickett, 20, of Fayetteville, N.C., was traveling south about 5:03 p.m. May 18 in the 500 block of North M.L.K. Boulevard when his 2005 Suzuki motorcycle struck a southbound 1998 Chevrolet S-10, state police said in a preliminary report.

As his motorcycle kept traveling, Pickett was thrown off and landed on the rock bank of a culvert ditch, according to authorities.

El Dorado police spokesman Capt. Kevin Holt said the motorcycle came to a rest on a road shoulder, but was unable to give details regarding the motorcycle's distance from Pickett.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to travel and later stop in a northbound lane on the road, state police said. A third vehicle, a 2004 Ford F-150, swerved to miss the Chevrolet, went off the east side of the road and stopped in a culvert.

The drivers of the Chevrolet and Ford were not reported to be hurt.

Pickett's death was the 191st reported by state police on an Arkansas road so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
