"His volume was low coming into this game, so he drew the assignment," Corbin said. "When you're pitching against a guy like [Tanner] Houck, you know that the game's going to be very tight, so you have to contain the game.

"He's got a good heartbeat. He contains himself very well. He's got a good personality on the field. It's quiet but he's very consistent in what he does."

Ethan Paul led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk and advanced to third on a hit-and-run single by Jeren Kendall, who stole second base moments later. Bryan Reynolds hit a double down the right-field line to give the Commodores a 2-0 lead. Missouri retired Alonzo Jones and Liam Sabino before Houck hit Will Toffey with a pitch to start a two-out rally. Reynolds stole third base and scored when the throw from catcher Brett Bond got away from third baseman Brian Sharp. Toffey took second on the error and scored on Sharp's second fielding error of the inning.

Reynolds was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Freshman pinch hitter Julian Infante followed with a two-run home run to left field for a 6-0 lead. Toffey hit a double to left-center field and scored on Kyle Smith's RBI single for a 7-0 lead.

Houck got the loss for Missouri (26-30) after allowing 4 runs -- 2 earned -- on 5 hits in 6 innings. Ryan Howard had two of the Tigers' four hits.

MISSISSIPPI 5, GEORGIA 1

J.B. Woodman went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, Colby Bortles added a two-run double and Tate Blackman extended his hitting streak to a career-high 10 games as Mississippi (41-16) advanced to face No. 2 seed South Carolina with its victory over Georgia (27-30).

The Rebels sent 10 hitters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to take control of the game. Will Golsan drew a one-out walk before Blackman's blooper to center field put two runners on base for Woodman, who hit a triple to right field to score both Golsan and Woodman. Henri Lartigue was hit by a pitch and stole second before Bortles' two-run double gave the Rebels a 4-1 lead. Woodman added an RBI double in the fifth that scored Golsan for a 5-1 lead.

"It's all about the timely hits, especially in this field," Mississippi Coach Mike Bianco said. "It plays so big that when you get runners on, you have to score and we did that today."

Georgia's only run came in the first inning on a Stephen Wrenn home run, his fifth of the season. Starter Heath Holder (4-5) took the loss after allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 errors. Mississippi starter Brady Bramlett (8-3) allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 4 innings.

ALABAMA 5, KENTUCKY 2

Catcher Will Haynie went 3 for 5, including a two-run home run in the ninth inning, to lead Alabama (32-23) past Kentucky (32-25).

The Crimson Tide scored three runs in the top of the second. Haynie hit a one-out single to center field, then advanced to second on Cody Henry's infield single. Chance Vincent grounded into a fielder's choice, but all runners were safe after an error by Kentucky shortstop Riley Mahan at second base. Daniel Cucjen walked with the bases loaded to score Haynie, then Henry and Vincent scored on Alex Webb's single to center field for a 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats got single runs in the fourth inning on a Evan White home run and in the seventh on an RBI double from Mahan.

Webb finished 3 for 4 for Alabama, who advanced to face top-seeded Mississippi State today, while Mahan was 2 for 3 to lead Kentucky. Crimson Tide starter Nick Eicholtz earned the victory after allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks over 62/3 innings. Thomas Burrows got the save after getting two strikeouts in 11/3 innings. Kentucky starter Zach Logue took the loss after allowing Alabama's three runs in the second inning. He allowed 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in 52/3 innings.
