South Alabama rallies to eliminate UALR from Sun Belt tournament

The UALR baseball team had trouble holding a late lead again, and this time it ended its season.

No. 2 seed South Alabama scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning and beat third-seeded UALR 6-4 on Thursday at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos, Texas.

The loss ends the Trojans' season at 26-28.

South Alabama didn't score until the seventh inning as UALR used three runs in the third on a Hayden Martin RBI double and Ryan Scott two-run home run to go up 3-0.

The Jaguars scored two in the seventh and entered the ninth down 4-2.

Jarrid Garcia issued a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-3, Jared Barnes gave South Alabama a lead with a two-run double, and the final run scored on a wild pitch.

UALR starter Cory Malcom held South Alabama to 2 runs on 3 hits and struck out 8 in 6 1/3 innings.
