A slight addendum

It appears more and more likely that Interstate 30 through Little Rock and North Little Rock will be expanded and the bridge replaced. Even what opposition there is appears divided. More and more folks are beginning to support the effort, and the state Highway Department has requested more than $630 million for the 30 Crossing Project.

So why not enhance it any way possible?

A consultant on the matter, one Paul Moore with Nelson/Nygaard, mentioned something to Little Rock's city directors this week, and it caught our eye in the paper. He said moving east-west around the crossing is still important, and that should be expanded, too. And this: He recommended overpasses should be wider, too, allowing for landscaped buffers and sidewalks--so drivers and pedestrians feel like they are still downtown, not just driving on some nondescript interstate that could be in Kansas City or Seattle or Newark.

That's a good idea. And if taxpayers are going to spend more than $630 million on this thing, why not do it right?

Call it a slight addendum. And a needed one.
