Arkansas boy killed after vehicle he was riding in crosses into oncoming traffic, police say

A boy traveling as a passenger was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday in Cleveland County, according to Arkansas State Police.

The crash occurred at 6:35 p.m. when a 2004 Volkswagen traveling north in the 4100 block of U.S. 63 crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a southbound 1996 GMC, authorities said in a preliminary report.

The boy, who was listed as a Hermitage resident, was riding in the Volkswagen, state police said. His identity was not released.

Another passenger in the Volkswagen, 50-year-old Marcelino Castillo of Warren, was also injured, according to authorities.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were listed as clear and dry.

According to preliminary state police figures, the boy’s death was the 194th reported on an Arkansas road so far this year.
