Clinton School gets online master's OK

NASHVILLE -- Beginning in summer 2017, the University of Arkansas Clinton School for Public Service will offer an online master's degree program.

On Thursday, the University of Arkansas System board of trustees gave the go-ahead for the school to reconfigure its current Master of Public Service degree into an Executive Master of Public Service Degree. The reconfiguration is aimed at midcareer public service professionals.

The new degree program will be offered in coordination with the University of Arkansas System's online-only eVersity. The program consists of 36 credit hours over two years and is offered online only in 12 eight-week semesters. It will cost students a total of $33,600, according to a news release.

The school will continue its regular master's program as well.

"Based on the success of our Master of Public Service degree program, we are optimistic that this new executive online degree will attract professionals from all over the country and the world who are pursuing careers and can't relocate to Little Rock," Skip Rutherford, dean of the Clinton School, said in a prepared statement.

The degree program will need a final stamp of approval from the state's Higher Education Coordinating Board.
