2 killed in crashes on state roadways

Two people died in separate vehicle crashes Thursday and Friday, according to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police.

On Thursday, a boy from Hermitage died after the 2004 Volkswagen he was riding in crossed the centerline on U.S. 63 and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, according to a state police report. State police do not release the names of minors killed in traffic crashes.

Another passenger, Marcelino Castillo, 50, of Warren was injured in the crash, according to the report.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of the accident, the report said.

On Friday, state police reported that a Bearden man died from a crash on U.S. 79 in Ouachita County.

Jackie Evans, 58, was traveling south when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a culvert in the median, according to a report. Evans then crossed over the roadway and drove into a ditch where he crashed into a small tree, state police said.

It was rainy and roads were wet at the time of the crash.
