Lanes to be closed on Bull Shoals dam

Maintenance by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Arkansas 178 will require a long-term lane closure, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

All lanes of the section of the highway over Bull Shoals dam will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Beginning Wednesday, the westbound lane will be closed around the clock until the work is complete. It is scheduled through May 2017.

A portable traffic signal will govern use of the one available lane for both directions of traffic, the department said.

Additional full closures of no more than two days at a time will recur on occasion as equipment is moved along the dam to continue refurbishment work. News releases will be issued in advance, the department said.

The closure will allow the Corps of Engineers to refurbish the Tainter floodgates on the dam. More information about this project is available from the Corps of Engineers Mountain Home project office at (870) 425-2700.
