My favorite space is: Our back patio.
Why? I love outdoor living spaces. We added this "room" on to our existing 100-plus-year-old farmhouse and it really is an extension of our home. When the weather is remotely decent (as in, above freezing or less than 100 degrees), we are outside. With four children under 5, we try to stay outdoors as much as possible -- this keeps everyone happy and leads to stress-free bedtimes.
Lego towers and intricate railway systems are commonly built along the brick pavers. Painting and coloring are favorite activities for the pint-size picnic table.
The fact that my husband, Dave, built most of the furniture in this space makes it even more special. Saturday mornings find me relaxing with a hot cup of coffee and a good book on his most recent project -- an oversize porch swing. Dinner is often served under the strung lights and his giant outdoor table is my favorite spot for entertaining guests.
If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: I love when the pots are overflowing with colorful flowers and green plants. I only wish I had a green thumb and could keep them all alive for more than a few weeks at a time!
