Memorial Day Ceremony

CABOT — American Legion Post 71 will present its annual

Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Park Community Center. The Post 71 Honor Guard will post colors and assist with the ceremony, which will be followed by a wreath-laying service at the Veterans Monument in front of the center. Attire will be Post 71 caps and summer dress — white polo shirts and gray slacks — or other appropriate attire.

A History of Burt Rutan

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Fairfield Bay Community Education Center, 130 Village Place, No. 2, will present Round & Out of This World: A History of Burt Rutan from a VariEz Builder’s Perspective! from 1-2 p.m. Author and historian John Lambert, who has built and flown Rutan’s VariEz kit plane, will narrate the presentation. Rutan, best known for his world-record around-the-world nonstop flight with co-pilot Jeana Yeager, has been an aviation trailblazer with his aircraft designs.

AARP Driver Safety Course

SEARCY — The Primes Times of White County Medical Center, now Unity Health, 3214 E. Race Ave., will offer an AARP Smart Driver Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hubach Conference Center. Farmers Market Opening

BATESVILLE — Batesville’s Main Street Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Pocket Park on Main Street, with live music from the Bona Fide String Band around 9 a.m. The market will operate the first and third Saturdays of each month through November. This week’s market will offer early summer vegetables, blueberries, blackberries, honey, herbs, and eggs from free-ranging chickens. Craftspeople will sell handmade items and art. North Arkansas Ancestor Fair

MARSHALL — The 27th North Arkansas Ancestor Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Christian Church off U.S. 65. The event will feature a gang of ancestor hunters and information about north Arkansas families. Ray Hanley of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s “Arkansas Postcard Past,” will give an illustrated program at 1:30 p.m. titled A Picture Postcard History of Searcy and Newton Counties. Genealogists and historians who want to share their information may set up tables, which will be provided, at 7:30 a.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Summer Celebration

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will host its annual Summer Celebration … Lights, Camera, Party! — a fundraiser for the arts — at the Barnett Building, 267 E. Main St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event’s “red carpet” theme will include prizes for the best-dressed “actor” and “actress.” There will be a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, drinks, raffle prizes and live music by Danny Dozier, Sarah Roark and John Parks. T Tauri Movie Camp Registration

BATESVILLE — The T Tauri Movie Camp, which offers a wide variety of video-production workshops for aspiring filmmakers up to the age of 18, is accepting registrations for the 12th annual summer youth program, which will take place July 18-30 in Batesville. Workshops vary from two to 3 1/2 days in length and include Script to Screen Narrative Filmmaking, Hometown Documentary, Depicting Zombies and a new offering, BrickFilms (stop-motion animation utilizing LEGO characters). Summer Reading Program and Story Hour

Fulton County Fair Booth Rental

SALEM — The Fulton County Fair Association is accepting reservations for commercial booth space for the 2016 county fair. Booths will set up in the new Salem Civic Center from 2-5 p.m. July 25 and remain in place until 7 p.m. July 30. Inside booths are 10-by-10 feet for $60, plus $5 for electricity. ASUN Summer Hours

NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport’s hours of operation have shifted to its summer schedule: ASUN’s campuses in Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, through Aug. 11. With the exception of White River Hall on the Newport campus, all ASUN offices and locations will be closed Fridays. Events that are already set to take place on Fridays during the summer will go on as scheduled. ASUN will resume normal operating hours Aug. 15.

First Responder Course

BATESVILLE — A First Responder course will be offered from

5:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting this week and running through June 30, in Room 926 of the Nursing Allied Health Building at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. The fee is $125, plus a textbook. First Responder teaches students emergency care for trauma patients, splinting techniques, bleeding control, rescue procedures, how to prepare a patient for transport and stabilization of a patient. EMT Instructor Course

BATESVILLE — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville will offer an EMT instructor course to introduce the experienced EMT to the teaching aspects of EMS, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 13-17. Summer Reading Camp

BATESVILLE — Registration is open for Get in the Game … Read! — the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project’s 2016 Summer Reading Camp for children entering first through sixth grades. JACKSONVILLE — Lifeguard classes will be offered at the Jacksonville Community Center. Participants must pass a pre-test and be at least 15 years old. CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the KingPin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Summer Bridge Program

BATESVILLE — Lyon College will host its annual Outdoor and ACT Prep Camp for rising high school juniors and seniors June 5-8. The event will offer a taste of the Lyon Education and Adventure Program (LEAP) and specialized ACT instruction from Stephen Leake, president of College Prep Coach Inc. Outdoor activities will include slacklining, bouldering, kayak polo, ultimate frisbee and a slip-n-slide.
