I-49 lanes to close for paving

SPRINGDALE -- Ongoing paving work on Interstate 49 between Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closures all next week, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

The work was originally scheduled for this week, but was postponed because of weather.

Beginning Tuesday night, crews will continue overlaying the existing roadway between Johnson Mill Boulevard, Exit 69, and U.S. 412/Sunset Avenue, Exit 72. North and south lanes on I-49 will alternately be closed during that time.

The overnight lane closures will occur nightly, ending Friday if weather permits, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The project is part of the Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 4.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction.
