Memorial Day events

The following are some of the events taking place around the state today and Monday in observance of Memorial Day:

TODAY

• Fort Smith -- A ceremony to honor veterans, 2 p.m. at Fort Smith National Cemetery.

• Little Rock -- Volunteers will place flags at the grave of veterans from the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm, 12:30 p.m. at Mount Holly Cemetery.

MONDAY

• Fayetteville -- A ceremony to honor veterans, featuring Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin, 10 a.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery.

• Jonesboro -- A ceremony to honor veterans, 9 a.m. at the Craighead County Courthouse.

• Marvell -- The city's ninth annual Memorial Day Veteran's Celebration, 10 a.m. at the Tri-County Fairgrounds.

• Maumelle -- A ceremony to honor those who have served in the military, 10 a.m. at the veterans memorial at Lake Willastein.

• North Little Rock -- The Arkansas State Memorial Day Ceremony featuring Gov. Asa Hutchinson, 10 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at North Little Rock. Visitors are asked to park at Sherwood Forest, 1111 W. Maryland Ave., due to ongoing construction. Free shuttle buses will run continuously from 8:30 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. and resume after the service. The Arkansas Veterans Coalition and VFW Auxiliary will host a cookout at Sherwood Forest immediately following the ceremony.

• Siloam Springs -- A dedication ceremony for the Siloam Springs Fallen Soldier Memorial, featuring Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin as keynote speaker, 9:30 a.m. at 317 South Mount Olive St.

• Texarkana -- A walk and service to honor and remember those who died defending and protecting the U.S., 11:30 a.m. downtown Texarkana at the Korea/Vietnam Memorial.
