Travs end pitching duel with late runs

The Arkansas Travelers scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings on 10 total hits to earn a 3-1 victory Saturday over the San Antonio Missions in front of an announced crowd of 5,765 at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium in San Antonio.

Bo Way singled to left-center field to start the sixth for Arkansas but was caught stealing second base. Angel Rosa singled and moved to third on Alex Yarbrough's ground-rule double. Rosa scored on Chad Hinshaw's sacrifice fly to give the Travs a 1-0 lead.

Andrew Daniel struck out to start the seventh for the Travs, but he reached first base on a wild pitch by Missions starter Bryan Rodriguez. He moved to third on Jose Briceno's single and scored on a sacrifice bunt from Way.

Cal Towey was hit by a pitch with one out in the eighth and scored on Eric Aguilera's double to left-center field for a 3-0 lead. San Antonio scored its only run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI triple from Gabriel Quintana.

Way was 3 for 3 to lead Arkansas offensively, while Towey was 2 for 2. Travs starter Zach Nuding (1-0) earned his first victory after giving up 4 hits and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts in 6 innings.

NATURALS 6, HOOKS 5 (12)

Frank Schwindel's single to center field scored Carlos Garcia in the top of the 12th inning Saturday to give the Naturals a victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The Hooks scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead, but the Naturals responded with three runs in the top of the fourth and added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 5-4 lead. Corpus Christi tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Derek Fisher.

Garcia and Zane Evans both went 2 for 5 to lead Northwest Arkansas, which had 12 hits. Kevin McCarthy (3-1) earned the victory after striking out 4 in 3 innings of relief. Eric Stout earned his second save of the season after pitching inducing a flyout and two groundouts in the 12th inning.
