Truck stolen in ruse at Arkansas Redbox; 1 jailed

Jacksonville police on Friday arrested a man in possession of a truck stolen while the victim rented a movie from Redbox, according to an arrest report.

The victim told police that he was at a Redbox at McDonald’s ordering a movie when a woman started trying to help him, the report said. While the woman distracted him, a man got into his car and drove off, police said.

Police stopped the woman, identified as Lila Miller, and she told them that Robert Timothy Johnson, 22, of Sherwood said he would meet her with the stolen vehicle at a Wal-Mart in Cabot, the report said.

Johnson fled in the stolen vehicle when Cabot police attempted to pull him over, police said.

The car chase ended after Johnson wrecked the vehicle, but he started running on foot, the report said.

Jacksonville police eventually found him in a field and arrested him.

Police linked Johnson to two other thefts after arresting him. They found two pill bottles and two checkbooks in his possession that were stolen from a man’s truck while he was at Lowe’s, the report said.

Additionally, he matched the description of a suspect who stole a wallet from an employee’s locker at Edward’s Grocery in Jacksonville on Thursday. Johnson admitted taking food from the store, and the victim’s stolen property was found in his possession, the report said.

Johnson faces three counts of breaking or entering, three counts of theft of property and two counts of criminal mischief.

He remained at Pulaski County jail Sunday in lieu of $15,500 bond.
