A 70-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting death of his brother during an argument in Hope early Tuesday, according to police.

In a news release, the Hope Police Department said the slaying of Willie J. Gulley, 60, was initially believed through witness information to be a suicide, though further investigation of physical evidence ruled Gulley’s death a homicide.

Police responded at 12:49 a.m. to 2108 W. Avenue E, where they found Gulley with a gunshot wound to his body.

He was pronounced dead about 1:30 a.m. by Hempstead County Coroner Ben Brazzel, authorities said.

Gulley is believed by authorities to have been shot with a handgun during an argument with his brother, Lee T. Momon, who was taken into custody about 4:45 a.m.

Momon is being held at the Hempstead County jail on a charge of first-degree murder pending a first appearance in court, according to police.

"Logical investigation indicated that three brothers resided together at the residence," the news release states.
