Man questioned after Little Rock shooting

Police have a man in custody for questioning about a shooting that sent another man to the hospital Monday night.

Little Rock police responded to a 911 call at about 8 p.m. Monday at 2512 South Maple St.

Police said someone was shot in the leg and taken to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries but would not identify the victim.

Nickie Nation, 44, who lives at the address, said the victim is her boyfriend, 48-year-old Keith Stewart.

Lorrin Dright, 24, lives next door and said she arrived home about 7:45 p.m. and saw Stewart outside arguing with a man in a red hoodie and red baseball cap who appeared to be about 19 or 20 years old. She didn't think anything of the argument, she said, and continued inside.

About five minutes later she heard two gunshots and someone running through her yard, she said.

Nation said Stewart had just arrived home from his brother's house a little before 8 p.m., and she noticed his clothes were disheveled and had blood on them. He told her he had been in a fight, and then he went back outside. She was in the bathroom and heard a gunshot, then Stewart yelled in pain before running and calling her name, Nation said.

She said she hid and called 911. She said police told her that they found Stewart at a nearby liquor store on Asher Avenue and transported him to the hospital.

Witnesses said that while police were at the scene, a man in a red hoodie and red cap was walking down the street, and then ran when he saw police. Witnesses said police took him into custody.

A police spokesman confirmed Monday night that officers had a man in custody and were investigating whether he was the man who shot Stewart, and he added that no charges had been made as of 10 p.m. Monday.
