Man arrested in carjacking, gas station robbery near UALR

Police on Monday arrested a man in connection with two armed robberies near the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in early May, according to an arrest report.

Michael Dewayne Gardner, 44, of Little Rock was identified as the suspect in a carjacking and gas station robbery, both along South University Avenue, the report said.

The first occurred May 6 when a couple's 2005 Chevrolet Impala and cellphones were stolen at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Town & Country Shopping Center near the intersection of Asher and University avenues, the report said.

The Shell station at 3200 South University Ave. was robbed at gunpoint two days later, the report stated.

Gardner was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and three counts of theft of property in the two armed robberies.

He was being held at Pulaski County jail on Monday without bond.
