6 die in accidents on state roadways

Six people were killed in crashes on state roadways last week, according to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police.

A head-on collision Friday evening in Jefferson County left one person dead and two others hurt, state police said.

The accident occurred at 6:45 p.m. on Arkansas 365 south of Redfield when a southbound 2014 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the centerline and hit a northbound 2016 Nissan Versa, according to a preliminary report.

The driver of the Nissan, David Graham, 21, of Jennings, La., was killed, police said.

A passenger in Graham's vehicle, Ethan Acevedo, 31, of Kinder, La., and the Chevrolet's driver, Ashlie Wafford, 28, of White Hall, were injured, the report says.

A Jonesboro man died after a deer that was struck by another vehicle went through his windshield in northwest Poinsett County on Friday morning, authorities said.

Kevin Crawford, 30, of Jonesboro was driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe east on Arkansas 18 about a mile outside Grubbs at 6:07 a.m, according to a state police report.

Another vehicle, a 2005 Honda Accord, was traveling west on the highway and struck a deer, sending the animal through the Santa Fe's windshield, state police said.

No one else was injured, according to the report.

A Northwest Arkansas man was killed while walking across a street about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, according to a state police report.

Cruz Gonzales, 62, of Springdale was crossing Thompson Street in the city when he was struck by a northbound Dodge Neon that then left the scene, police said. The driver of the Dodge was not named.

A Little Rock teen died Thursday after the car she was riding in collided head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 530 in Jefferson County, according to state police.

Olivia Perez-Porch, 19, of Little Rock was a passenger in a 2009 Pontiac G6 headed north on the interstate near Redfield about 3:10 p.m. The vehicle crossed the grass median between the lanes, went through a cable barrier and struck a 2016 Jeep Wrangler head-on, state police said.

The Pontiac's driver, 19-year-old Darrykha Dukes of Little Rock, was injured in the wreck, according to the report.

The Jeep's driver, Brian Thompson, 39, of Pine Bluff, and two passengers -- Brittany Thompson, 29, and a 1-year-old -- were also reported injured in the collision.

On Tuesday night, a 42-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle that police say then left the scene.

Police believe that Christal Davis of Rosston was struck about 10:45 p.m. on Arkansas 200 about 2 miles east of Rosston in Nevada County.

No description of the vehicle was known. A state police report said it was thought to have been traveling east.

Davis' body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy.

A 79-year-old man was killed Monday after he walked into the path of a vehicle in west Little Rock, state police said.

In a preliminary report, authorities said the accident happened about 4:45 p.m. Monday when Little Rock resident James Bass walked in front of a 2000 Ford Ranger at 18912 Denny Road.

The driver of the Ford, whose identity was not released, attempted to avoid hitting Bass, police noted.

Bass was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads were dry at the time of all the crashes, state police reported.
