The Recruiting Guy

Another Mississippi juco player enjoys UA visit

Arkansas has one commitment from a receiver from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and they're hoping to also land Brandon Martin.

Martin, 6-4, 217 pounds, 4.37 seconds in the 40-yard dash, has approximately 15 scholarship offers, including ones from Arkansas, Florida, Auburn, Mississippi State, Louisville and Arizona State. He made an official visit to Fayetteville for Saturday's LSU game and was hosted by Hogs cornerback Kevin Richardson.

"It is a great place," Martin said. "I like the atmosphere. I like their players that I met. K-Rich was a real cool host. It is a nice place and they have a good academic center, and that is why I really like this place."

Receiver Jonathan Nance, Martin's teammate at Mississippi Gulf Coast, committed to the Hogs in May. Offensive line target DeMarcus Hayes, 6-6, 315, is also from the same school. He and Nance officially visited Fayetteville in June.

Nance had hoped to make an unofficial visit to Fayetteville last weekend, but was unable to make it.

"He had a great year this year," Martin said. "He played on the same side sometimes, so that made it harder for the defense to stop us."

Martin, who was accompanied on the visit by his parents, Lloyd and Karen Martin, and his uncle, Marvin Williams, is being recruited by receivers coach Michael Smith.

"He is a real coach," Martin said. "He is going to keep it straight up with you."

A New Orleans native, Martin signed with LSU out of Prime Prep Academy in Dallas in 2015, but fell short academically and enrolled in junior college. ESPN rated Martin the nation's No. 12 wide receiver and No. 101 overall prospect as a senior. He played in the Under Armour All-American game.

He's planning to officially visit Louisville when the Cardinals play Kentucky on Nov. 26, and Arizona State the following weekend. He said Arkansas' 38-10 loss to LSU on Saturday didn't damper his interest.

"I think they have a bright future and they don't have to worry about the passing game because they have running backs that are really going to get the job done on the ground," Martin said.

Martin plans to graduate in December and will have three years to play three at his next school.

Fishing for Fisher

A week after receiving a scholarship offer from Arkansas, Tulsa Union linebacker commitment Kyrie Fisher made an official visit to Fayetteville for the LSU game.

Fisher, 6-2, 240, 4.62, added the offer from the Hogs while making an unofficial visit for the Florida game the week before. He said he enjoyed his latest trip to Arkansas.

"A lot of great people out here," said Fisher, who has committed to Minnesota. "It's a beautiful campus with great coaches."

He said it looks to be a two-team race between the Hogs and Gophers.

"Basically just these two," Fisher said. "I'm just focusing on my football season. I'm not focusing on anything college-wise until after football season is over."

Fisher had 71 tackles and 4 sacks as a junior and has 55 tackles and 4 sacks this season. He said his physicality and speed are his strengths.

"I feel no one can block me," Fisher said.

CBS Sports Network national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming rates Fisher as a 3-star prospect

"He's quick to the ball with an explosive closing burst," Lemming said. "He flows well to the ball and takes good angles. He can break down in space and make plays."
