2 pedestrians among 5 dead in accidents on roads in state

Five people, including two pedestrians, were killed in accidents on Arkansas roadways Monday and Tuesday, according to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police.

A Fayetteville woman died after a collision in Madison County on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Jessie Owens, 88, was stopped in a 2012 Honda on U.S. 412B at an intersection with U.S. 412 near Hindsville around 5:23 p.m. She then attempted to cross into the westbound lane of U.S. 412, and the side of the vehicle was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet heading east on the highway, officials said.

Owens suffered fatal injuries.

The Chevrolet's driver, 68-year-old Bob Massey, and passenger, 67-year-old Sarah Deskin, both of Rogers, were injured, police said. At least one of the injured was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, police said.

A Fayetteville teen died Tuesday when the motor scooter he was on was struck by another vehicle in the city, authorities said.

Grant McCoy White, 19, was a passenger on a 2014 Bintelli Edge motor scooter that was heading west on West Wedington Drive toward an intersection with North Fieldstone Avenue, according to a state police report.

As White neared the intersection around 9:40 p.m., a 2008 Nissan Sentra started to turn from Fieldstone onto Wedington and struck the scooter, officials said.

Another rider who was operating the scooter, a male minor of Fayetteville, was injured in the wreck and taken to Washington Regional Medical Center.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, officials said.

A Greenwood man died Tuesday morning after his BMW collided with two other vehicles on a state highway, authorities said.

Randall Studyvin, 62, was heading north on Arkansas 59 in a 2007 BMW around 6:20 a.m., according to state police.

The BMW attempted to pass a 2015 Chevrolet traveling the same direction and crashed head-on into a 2000 Chevrolet in the southbound lane of the highway, officials said.

The BMW then spun around and struck the 2015 Chevrolet on the driver's side, police said.

The driver of the 2000 Chevrolet, 55-year-old Tracy Barrett of Van Buren, was injured and taken to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.

The report didn't indicate the precise location of the wreck but said it happened in Crawford County.

Conditions were said to be foggy at the time of the wreck.

A Trumann pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a vehicle on a highway near the city Monday, authorities said.

A 2004 Chevrolet was heading south on Arkansas 69 near Cash Road in Poinsett County around 5:25 p.m. when the vehicle hit 45-year-old Richard Timbs, who was in the road, state police said.

Timbs was taken to The Med Hospital in Memphis and was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck, and no one else was injured, state police said.

A homeless man died after he was hit by a car while walking on a highway in Benton County early Monday, authorities said.

William Goodloe, 49, was walking east shortly before 4 a.m. in the right-hand lane of U.S. 412 near an intersection with Kincheloe Road east of Siloam Springs, according to a state police report.

A 1995 Chevy Camaro was also traveling east on the roadway, and the vehicle struck Goodloe from behind, officials said.

Goodloe was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Camaro were not reported to be injured.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck, state police said.
