Hegler's four TDs send Hampton by Foreman

Behind 4 touchdowns from halfback Emanuel Hegler, Hampton easily defeated Foreman Gators 54-21 in playoff action Friday night.

"You can't turn over the football 5 times against a good football team and expect to win," Foreman Coach Mark King said. "My hat's off to them."

"It was a good team win with a lot of people contributing tonight.," Hampton Coach Wes Ables said. "We won the turnover battle which helps because Foreman is a good offensive team. Our defense played lights out because we were missing out defensive coordinator tonight. The kids stepped up for him. This was a total team effort tonight."

Defensive coordinator Brandon Austin whom was admitted to Jefferson Regional Medical Center Thursday night with heart issues. He is expected to be released today.

Hampton scored on it's first three possessions and the first one didn't take long.

Hampton's TJ Lambert took the opening kickoff 45 yards to the Foreman 29. Four plays later quarterback Monta Thomas ran six yards and Hegler ran for two points for an 8-0 lead with 8:08 left in the quarter.

Foreman countered with a nine-play drive covering 63 yards, capped by a one-yard run by Kolton Moore to pull within one after the PAT with 4:25 left in the first quarter. The drive was kept alive by a 19-yard run by Kyren Batey.

Lambert returned the ensuing kickoff 40 yards to the Foreman 49. Three plays later, Thomas scored on a 37-yard run for a 14-7 lead with 2:55 left in the first quarter.

Brian Williams recovered a fumble on the Foreman 38 that set up another Bulldog score.

Six plays later, Hegler scored from the 9 with 10:20 left in the first half. A conversion run increased Hampton's lead to 22-7.

An interception by Hampton's Gauge Welch on the Foreman 25 set up the Bulldogs' last score of the first half. Thomas passed 13 yards to Dante Rainey with 18 seconds left in the first half, resulting in a 28-7 lead.

Hegler scored his second touchdown early in the third quarter after recovering a fumble and taking it to the end zone, followed by a 44-yard run by Kevin Childs that put Hampton up 40-7 with 7:48 left in the third quarter.

Moore scored his second touchdown on a 27-yard run, narrowing the lead to 40-14. Hegler scored on a 27-yard run and returned a pass interception for a touchdown to make it 54-14.

A Foreman touchdown on a 54-yard run by Batey early in the fourth quarter set the final score.
